Editor's Note
The historic Septimius Severus Bridge, located within the bounds of the rural Gümüşpınar neighborhood, was built during the reign of the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus by the 4th Scythian Legion, which had its garrison at Samsat. Of the columns on the bridge, one was dedicated to Emperor Septimius Severus, one to his wife Julia Domna, and another to their sons Geta and Caracalla. The bridge is known as an important crossing in antiquity on the road running from Dülük and Zeugma to Samsat. Built of cut-stone blocks, the bridge is 30 meters long and 8 meters high. It has been renovated in a way that has caused it to lose its original character.
