The Mecidiye Han was expropriated by the Şahinbey Municipality as part of efforts to preserve historic assets. Belonging to the group of single-courtyard, two-story hans within Ottoman han architecture, the building appears as the "Nakip Hanı" in the Sharia Court registers of 1756. Its trapezoidal courtyard is surrounded by shops on the ground floor and by arcades on the upper floor. Being lined with shops along two facades is a feature that sets the han apart from others. An important monumental structure in Gaziantep's Cultural Route project, the han will be preserved and carried into the future with social and sustainable functions.
