Editor's Note

Although its exact date of construction is unknown, the han is thought to have been built in the early 1900s. Within Ottoman han typology, it belongs to the group of two-story, single-courtyard hans. It has certain features that set it apart from classical Ottoman hans: the spaces do not surround the courtyard on all four sides but enclose it only on the south and north. The spaces on the south side were built as a single story, while those on the north have two stories. Its plan type is likewise not seen in other hans. The spaces on the lower floor of the north wing are shops that have no connection to the courtyard and open onto the street.
