Editor's Note
It was built in 1571-1572 by Grand Vizier Lala Mustafa Paşa. Originally constructed as a covered bazaar (the old bedesten), it took its present form over time through additions. The han has the character of a typical Ottoman caravanserai. At the center is a courtyard measuring 18 by 24 meters; on the south side of the ground floor is a stable, with merchants' rooms in the other sections, and rooms for rest and overnight lodging on the first floor.
