Editor's Note
The Cumhuriyet (Republic) Fountain stands in the Ayakapı area of the Yavuz Sultan Selim quarter, in Istanbul's Fatih district. Its inscription reads "Cumhuriyet Çeşmesi," while its pediment bears the Hijri date 1341. Decoration survives only on its basin, and the marble of its platform is broken.
