Rakı is a spirit made by flavouring twice-distilled grape pomace with aniseed, regarded as Türkiye's national drink. It is usually taken with seafood and meze, and is a cousin of aniseed spirits such as pastis, ouzo and arak. Turkish standards set its alcohol content at no less than 40 percent. It holds a registered designation of origin.
