Story

Located in the seaside area of Silivri, the Ablution Fountain of the Piri Mehmet Paşa Mosque is an elegant example of 16th-century Ottoman architecture. Positioned at the center of the mosque's courtyard, this şadırvan is built in the traditional octagonal design, constructed of marble and stone. Its taps, which invite visitors to perform ablutions before prayer, demonstrate a perfect union of aesthetics and functionality. As an important part of water architecture in the Ottoman period, ablution fountains served not only a religious purpose but also as a center of social life. Notable for its fine ornamentation and masterful stonework, this structure has supported the worship life of the people of Silivri for centuries. During your visit, do not forget to examine the historical mosque architecture around the fountain and to also see the nearby Silivri Castle; discovering these historical structures by the seaside will offer an unforgettable experience.
