Editor's Note
The Prison of Anemas is a large Byzantine building attached to the city walls of Constantinople near the Golden Horn, forming part of the Blachernae Palace complex. It is traditionally named after Michael Anemas, a Byzantine general who rose in an unsuccessful revolt against Emperor Alexios I Komnenos and was the first to be imprisoned there. In the last centuries of the Byzantine Empire, four emperors were held here.
