Story
Perched high on the hill of Galata, SALT Galata is a place where contemporary art and cultural memory meet inside a historic building that bears the marks of 19th-century architecture. Through exhibitions, archival collections, and significant photographic sections that reflect Beyoğlu's cosmopolitan past, visitors discover the city's transformation from the Ottoman era to the present day. Successfully preserved through its restoration, this building plays an important role in defining Beyoğlu's identity, both for its architectural value and for the cultural content it offers. As an interesting detail, many of the objects and documents in SALT's archive remain largely unknown to the public. When you visit, we highly recommend taking in the view from the rooftop open area, which stretches toward the Galata Tower and the Bosphorus.
