Misis, the ancient city of Mopsuestia, stood in the plains of Cilicia on the Pyramus (Ceyhan) River along the historic Silk Road, about 20 km east of ancient Antiochia in Cilicia. From the city's harbour the river was navigable down to the Mediterranean, a distance of over 40 km.
