Story
One of the most vibrant pieces of Gaziantep's historic fabric, the Coppersmiths' Bazaar (Bakırcılar Çarşısı) lives on in the Şahinbey district, the beating heart of copperwork for centuries. With its narrow lanes, wet stone floors and the never-ceasing ring of hammer blows, the bazaar is a place full of craftsmanship, where the art of coppersmithing is still practised and passed down from one generation to the next. In each master's workshop, pure copper is shaped into elegant trays, ewers, braziers and ceremonial vessels, carrying the imprint of traditional Gaziantep motifs and framing techniques. A cornerstone of Ottoman-era trade routes, this bazaar is also a source of pride as the home of Gaziantep coppersmithing, a craft nominated for UNESCO recognition. Every copper piece you buy here is a testament to the maker's hours and devotion. When you visit, ask to watch a master at work, and behind every hammer blow you will sense an 800-year-old heritage.
