Story

The Monumental Fountain of Side stands as a masterpiece in the very heart of Side, the ancient trade port of Manavgat, bearing the traces of different civilizations across more than a thousand years. Side, the most vibrant trade center of the Mediterranean from the Hellenistic period onward, built this monumental fountain in the late period of Roman rule - a structure with a central role in the social and cultural life of the city as much as in supplying water to its public spaces. Its architecture reflects the characteristic lines of the classical Roman period: solid blocks of cut stone, elegant columns, and intricate ornamentation. In every stone of this structure, worn by time and the elements, the skill and aesthetic sense of its ancient masters can still be seen. A heritage of layered civilizations reaching from the Phoenicians to the Romans has come down to the present through this fountain. When you visit, do not forget to explore the excavated architectural ruins around the fountain and to breathe in the atmosphere of this ancient city nourished by the Manavgat River.
