Story
Waiting quietly on the shore of the Bosphorus, Ostreodes is one of Istanbul's strategic settlements from antiquity. Taking its name from the Greek word ostrea, meaning "oyster," this place was a meeting point of various civilizations from antiquity through the Byzantine period. The architectural ruins visible today testify to the commercial and military importance of their time. The trade routes passing through the narrow channel of the Bosphorus made Ostreodes a regular port of call. Structures built one atop another in different periods reveal the mastery of ancient builders. Thanks to its location on the seashore, it played a strategic role for both merchant ships and military movements. Today, as you tour this site, you can imagine the cultural layers the Bosphorus has carried across different eras. If you come during the morning hours of your visit, the rays of the sun paint the ancient stones gold and create unique moments for photography enthusiasts.
