Editor's Note
Chelae was a coastal town of ancient Bithynia on the Bosphorus, its name meaning "claws" in Greek after the shape of the coast. Byzantine sources record that Andronikos I Komnenos was banished here to a tower, and years later, fleeing the capital, was driven back to Chele by storms and captured; its site lies near Keçili Liman.
