Editor's Note
Laertes was a town in ancient Cilicia, described by Strabo as a fortress, and is thought to be the home of the Greek philosopher Diogenes Laertius. It stood about 25 km east of Alanya, at the mouth of a valley in the Taurus Mountains at an altitude of 850 metres in a defensible setting. Surviving Roman-era remains include watchtowers, a semicircular seating unit in the agora, an odeon or theatre, temples to Zeus, Apollo and Caesar, a bath and a necropolis.
