Story

Located within the historic fabric of Fatih, the Tekfur Palace stands as one of the last representatives of Byzantine architecture. The Tile Museum established within the palace brings together the most valuable ceramic works of the Seljuk and Ottoman eras. The blue, turquoise, and red tones of the tiles from İznik, Kütahya, and Çanakkale seem, under the light, to bring the handiwork of the past back to life. Among the museum's most striking collections are 16th-century İznik tiles; the unique blue of these tiles is proof of the successful techniques of the period and the master colorist's refined knowledge. Another interesting detail is that the archaeological finds on display in the museum consist of pieces unearthed during excavations within the Tekfur Palace itself, thus laying bare the building's historical layers.
