Editor's Note
The Museum of the Ancient Orient is part of the Istanbul Archaeology Museums complex, standing opposite the main Archaeology Museum building. Its collections comprise pre-Greek artefacts of Anatolia and Mesopotamia and pre-Islamic works of Egypt and the Arabian Peninsula. The building was designed in 1883 by Alexandre Vallaury, commissioned by Osman Hamdi Bey, as the Ottoman College of Fine Arts; the museum itself was established in its current building in 1935, after the college moved out in 1916.
