Editor's Note
A national archaeology museum in the İzmit district of Kocaeli. It is housed in the historic İzmit railway station complex, built between 1873 and 1910 by the German architect Otto Ritter, and opened in early 2007. Its halls display Paleolithic, Hellenic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman artifacts, while its garden holds sculptures, sarcophagi and grave stelae from the period when Nicomedia was a capital.
