Editor's Note
The Hevsel Gardens are some seven hundred hectares of fertile, cultivated land in Diyarbakır, lying along the Tigris between the Diyarbakır Fortress and the river valley. Fed by springs on the steep slope, the gardens long played a vital role in provisioning and watering the fortified city. They were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2015 together with the walls of Diyarbakır Fortress.
