Editor's Note
The Bosphorus Bridge, officially the 15 July Martyrs Bridge and colloquially the First Bridge, is the oldest and southernmost of the three suspension bridges spanning the Bosphorus in Istanbul, connecting Europe and Asia between Ortaköy and Beylerbeyi. It is a gravity-anchored suspension bridge with steel towers, measuring 1,560 metres long with a main span of 1,074 metres and towers 165 metres tall. Construction began on 20 February 1970 and the bridge opened on 30 October 1973, on the 50th anniversary of the Turkish Republic.
