Editor's Note
The Karkamış Bridge is a Parker-truss railway bridge carrying the Baghdad Railway across the Euphrates in southeastern Turkey, in the Birecik district of Şanlıurfa Province. Built by the Baghdad Railway between 1911 and 1913, it was the only permanent crossing of the Euphrates in the area and played an important role in transporting troops and supplies during World War I. Ownership later passed through several railway companies before being absorbed by the Turkish State Railways in 1948.
