Kontoskalion was one of the harbours of Constantinople, known through history under several names including the Harbour of Julian, the Harbour of Sophia and, in the Ottoman period, Kadırga. It served as an active port from the 6th century into the early Ottoman era. Because it appears under so many names, the sources describing it often conflict.
