Editor's Note
The Sakarya Delta is a delta plain formed where the Sakarya River carries sediment into the Black Sea. Unlike the nearby Kızılırmak and Yeşilırmak deltas, it does not protrude noticeably into the sea; because the seabed deepens abruptly and currents are strong, the delta has instead developed parallel to the coast along an east-west axis.
