Editor's Note
It was built in 1900 by Ali Refik Paşa, commissioned from the architect Apostol Kalfa (Apostolos Psitikas), a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts, during his years as a master builder. The mansion stands between the railway line and Bağdat Avenue. Above a masonry plinth floor raised one metre off the ground, it is a two-storey wooden mansion. From some of its façades it appears to be three storeys. The mansion was later sold to Rukiye Sultan, daughter of Mehmet Selahattin Efendi, grandson of Sultan Murad V. For this reason, the mansion is known by the name Rukiye Sultan. When Rukiye Sultan married Şerif Abdülmecit in 1912, they bought this mansion and lived here.
