In 1861, Sultan Abdülaziz had a mansion built, known as the Kurbağalıdere Mansion, on land allotted to him that now covers the grounds of Marmara University and the Göztepe Training and Research Hospital. In 1864, his brother Murad V had a mansion, buildings for servants and the harem, a bathhouse, and a hunting lodge built on the hilltop portion of this area.
