Editor's Note
The tavern that Master Todori (Todori Çarkas) opened in the 1920s beneath a plane tree, between the church and the school, became a haunt of the artists and writers of the era. After his death, his son Stavro and son-in-law Filip continued to run the place, later handing it over to Sabri Efendi. A section of the old Kalamış Greek Primary School is also used by the business. The famous composer Selahattin Pınar died here on 6 February 1960 from a heart attack. A bust erected in his honour stands at the front of the place, close to the road.
