Editor's Note
The Aziziye Theatre (also known as the Ottoman Theatre) was founded in 1868 in Istanbul's Üsküdar district and was one of the city's oldest theatres. The Asya Theatre company, directed by Güllü Agop, performed here regularly for several years, and famous Armenian actors of the Ottoman stage such as Serope Benkliyan, Tomas Fasulyeciyan, and Verkine and Yeranuhi Karakaşyan rose to fame on this stage. The building was bought by Colonel Ata Bey, who had it repaired in April 1877. It stood in the İcadiye neighbourhood, at the junction of Ayarcıbaşı Street and Cemil Meriç Street.
