Editor's Note
Aperlae (Aperlai) was a Lycian city founded in the 5th century BC, lying at the foot of the Sıçak Peninsula between present-day Kaş and Kekova. Though it played no major role in history or politics, its lifespan of roughly 1,300 years is notable. The harsh terrain of its hinterland made the city dependent on the sea, and its people maintained a close relationship with it without developed harbor facilities. No comprehensive excavation has been carried out, but research has identified sea snails (murex) as one of the city's main sources of livelihood.
