Editor's Note
The Bet Yaakov Synagogue stands on İcadiye Street in the Kuzguncuk district on the Asian side of the Bosphorus, beside a Greek Orthodox church. Its construction is commonly dated to 1878, though more recent research shows the Ottoman Sultan granted permission for its renovation as early as 1862, suggesting the building may be older. Although Kuzguncuk's Jewish population has moved away in recent years, worshippers whose families originated there keep it alive for Shabbat services.
