Editor's Note
Opened in 1937, the Kadıköy Community House formed the nucleus of today's Public Education Centre. In 1938 the architect Rüknettin Güney won the competition held for the construction of the Kadıköy Community House. From 1943 the building was used under the name Kadıköy Community House; closed in 1951, it took the name Kadıköy Public Education Centre after 1953. The first director of the newly built Kadıköy Community House was Celâl Esad Arseven. Wilhelm Kempff, one of the leading pianists of the 20th century, gave a concert here during its time as a community house. (Source: Little Moda, Picturesque Everywhere, Anais M.)
