Editor's Note

This mansion, said to have been built in 1892 by the banker Yorgo Zarifi, is in sound condition and now serves as a café-restaurant. For a time it was also used as a children's hospital. It was the mansion of Seyfi Basa, Turkey's first dermatologist, who served as chief physician at Zeynep Kamil Hospital. He also served as chief physician at Cerrahpaşa and Haseki Hospitals.
