Editor's Note

It is a large building of five storeys over a basement, with an attic floor, facing Rıhtım Avenue. Its exterior is plain, with eye-catching small Art Nouveau decorations. The building, consisting of two blocks, was constructed in 1926-1927 and 1927-1930 by Raif Efendi, the palace's chief electrician, and was used by institutions such as the İyilik College, the Kadıköy Private Higher School of Engineering and Architecture, the Göztepe Tax Office and the Eysan Hotel. In 1992 the artist Tanju Okan stayed for a long time in room number 310 of this hotel; the room was named after him and he was given the hotel's symbolic key.
