Editor's Note
In the mansion built in 1886, the Englishman James Barker and his family lived until 1896. The house was later sold to Dimitri Vlademis, and in 1897 Mahmut Muhtar Paşa bought it and moved in. Put on trial for his military error in the First World War, Mahmut Muhtar Paşa left the country in 1929 and settled in Egypt. After the 1952 revolution in Egypt, the family's entire fortune was confiscated, and the heirs returned to settle in the Moda mansion. But with their finances badly ruined, the family sold the mansion and its contents.
