Editor's Note
On 14 April 1903, the silo, customs house, port police, port authority, passport office, power station, and waiting-hall buildings were officially opened along with the harbor facilities. Later, between 1903 and 1908, the "Immigrants' Guesthouse" building was added; it was the work of Mimar Kemalettin Bey, a leading figure of the First National Architecture movement, renowned for his work in the early 20th century.
