Editor's Note
At the Üsküdar Courthouse, a two-storey building of rubble stone also known as the court where Mehmed the Conqueror was tried, "incident registers" recording neighborhood births, deaths, betrothals, and marriages were kept. Along with those of Galata and Eyüp, it was one of the three most important courts of Istanbul. The surviving judges' records show that this court mainly heard criminal incident and commercial cases. According to a report prepared by İbrahim Hakkı Konyalı in 1941, the Üsküdar Courthouse building was at that date the property and workplace of a lawyer.
