Editor's Note
The founder of the mosque was Balaban Ahmed Baba. The gravestone in the cemetery of the deceased bears the words: "He is the Everlasting. For the soul of His Holiness Eş-Şeyh Balaban Ahmed Baba of the İsfendiyarzade family, recite the Fatiha. Year 1047 (1637 CE)." The surviving inscription of the Balaban Lodge, from Şeyh Âşir Efendi and his wife Ayşe Sıdıka Hanım, reads: "The King of Kings Sultan Mehmed Han of habitual grace, may he forever remain joyful and content on the throne of the sultanate; this lodge in the first age..."
