Editor's Note
Although no definite information survives about the Kavak Palace in Üsküdar, it is known that Süleyman the Magnificent, Selim II, and Murad III were very fond of it and used it often. Mimar Sinan recorded that he built two pavilions in this royal garden during the reigns of Selim II and Murad III. The oldest depiction of the palace appears in Nakkaş Osman's Şehinşahname of 1581, which shows numerous structures near the shore. Drawings by Piri Reis and European manuscripts also depict the palace's buildings, surrounded by cypress trees and crowned with domes and pyramidal roofs.
