Editor's Note
It is a water cistern belonging to a printing works (basmahane) that once stood at that location. In 1953, Akif Güner, the principal of Şemsipaşa Primary School, bought these printing-works ruins from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and added an annex called the "shelter" to the school.
