Editor's Note
The lodge founded by Şeyh Hasan Zarifi, one of the deputies of İbrahim Gülşeni, came in time to be called the "Durmuş Dede Lodge." The reason for this is that a holy fool named Durmuş Dede came from Akkirman, settled in the lodge, and his miracles spread far and wide. Sailors about to set out into the Black Sea would stop here to pray for a safe voyage and return. Evliya Çelebi, who met Durmuş Dede in person, gives the following account of him: "All the boatmen coming and going would visit and give alms. He would tell certain captains, 'Do not go to such-and-such a place; go to such-and-such a place instead.'"
