Founded in Istanbul in 1863 by American educators Cyrus Hamlin and Christopher Robert, Robert College (today Robert Lisesi) is the oldest continuously operating American school outside the United States. It has produced a long list of notable alumni, including Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk. Set on a wooded campus in Besiktas between Arnavutkoy and Ulus, it continues as a selective, co-educational, English-language private school with both day and boarding students.
