Editor's Note
Also known as the Ayvazpasazade or Memduh Pasha Mansion, the Ali Vafi Kosk originally belonged to an Armenian banker and was bought in 1915 by Ali Vafi of Crete. Its garden is said to have once held a mint and a water-powered lift. Partly burned in a 1919 fire, the building was faithfully reconstructed in the 1980s and is backed by the Ali Vafi grove.
