Editor's Note
The large waterside mansion among the Şah Sultan Yalıs, on the Kuruçeşme side, was for a time in the possession of Hamdi Pasha; after the Pasha's death it was allotted to Grand Vizier Ethem Pasha. Ethem Pasha used this mansion during his grand vizierate between 1877 and 1878, in the reign of Abdülhamid II. After Ethem Pasha, Şerif Pasha bought the mansion and had it repaired. During these repairs, balconies were added to the Bosphorus-facing side. Before Şerif Pasha could move in, the mansion was given by decision of Abdülhamid II to Mediha Sultan, one of the sultan's sisters.
