Editor's Note
This fountain at the junction of Palanga Avenue and Çevirmeci Street in Ortaköy has fallen into ruin over time, leaving only a carved mirror stone and an inscription. This inscription, a fine example of calligraphy that opens with a Quranic verse and a hadith about water, continues in Arabic. From it we learn that the fountain was built in 1198 by Mehmed Sadık, son of Şanizade Elhac Mustafa, and that its calligraphy is the work of a calligrapher named İsmail Zühdî. www.suvakfi.org.tr
