The Hatice Sultan Mansion, a historic yali next to the Buyuk Mecidiye Mosque in Ortakoy, was once one of six sultans' waterside mansions and is the only one in Ortakoy still standing after repeated fires. Built in the late 1800s by Abdul Hamid II for Hatice Sultan, daughter of Murad V, it served as an orphanage and then a primary school after the Ottoman dynasty was exiled. Allotted to a swimming club in 1972, it is used today as the building of a water sports club.
