Editor's Note
The orphanage founded in 1918 for the children of the Çanakkale (Gallipoli) martyrs later became a school that admitted all orphaned children. Its building in Ortaköy, to which it moved in 1925, was rebuilt after a fire. The new building was able to begin operating in 1928. The orphanage and school, which closed in 1973, stand unused today.
