Editor's Note
It was built in 1854 by Sultan Abdülmecid. Its architect was Nikogos Balyan. It was repaired in 1862 and 1866. After it was damaged in the 1894 earthquake, it was again taken in for repair by the Ministry of Pious Foundations in 1909. In this repair the fluted minarets that had collapsed were rebuilt without fluting. Its dome was renewed in a restoration begun by the General Directorate of Foundations in 1960. It was reopened for worship in 1969. Partly ruined in a fire in 1984, the building was restored once more.
