Editor's Note
Also known as the Serdâb Pavilion, the Marble Pavilion is a single-story masonry kiosk within the Beylerbeyi Palace complex in Istanbul's Üsküdar district. It was built between 1829 and 1832 together with the wooden First Beylerbeyi Palace and was the only structure left standing when that old palace was demolished. Named for the marble cladding its façades, it was designed as a cool retreat in hot weather, with a marble pool and fountain at the center of its hall and wall fountains (selsebils) along the walls. It opened to visitors in 1985 along with the palace museum.
