Editor's Note
In 1886, during the late Ottoman period, Üryanizade Cemil Molla Efendi (1865-1941), who had served as Minister of Justice and President of the Council of State, was on the verge of giving up hope of building the mansion he dreamed of placing on the heights of Kuzguncuk - a work of refined taste and a symbol of distinction - when he chanced upon the Italian-born architect Signor Alberti. The Ottomans' deep-rooted refinement and spirit combined with Alberti's technique and European expertise created what is perhaps Istanbul's most ambitious, thoroughly innovative, and entirely original historic building.
