Editor's Note
The waterside mansion on Körfez Avenue was built in the neo-Mauresque style and the wooden lath-and-plaster technique by an Italian architect, commissioned by a French marquis who converted to Islam in order to marry Melike Aliye Hanım and took the name Ahmet Necip. After a fire it suffered in 1983 left only wall remnants standing, the building was later rebuilt. The mansion, which has changed hands many times to the present day and carries some additions, was registered under protection no. 81 by the Council for Immovable Antiquities and Monuments in 1971.
