Editor's Note
This wooden waterside mansion on Barış Manço Avenue, in the traditional classical Turkish building style, with Baroque-influenced buttresses and built in the lath-and-plaster technique, was first commissioned in 1750 by its original owner Ethem Efendi. It later passed to Saffet Pasha, who served as Foreign Minister and Grand Vizier during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II, and after his death to his family. A large building complex comprising harem, selamlık, boathouse and oarsmen's rooms, the dilapidated mansion was repaired in keeping with its original form after Saffet Pasha bought it. Whether in the 20th.
